A Visitor from Shanghai

patrIolaus

This is an amazing experience. We just had a visitor from Shanghai named Pat Dulaney. He will be teaching a class on blogging and takes the centralist view. (Pat blogged too)

So it appears that we have support from around the globe. Currently, there is a bit of chaos. Folks are learning to use the tools, talk about the issue, and interact via chat from folks around the globe! Amazing experiment!

Note! Content in this weblog is purely for the purposes of the "Small Technologies Loosely Joined" presentation at the June 2004 NMC Summer Conference and should not blindly accepted as the opinions of those who tread here. We are doing this to demonstrate a process of using technology.

LOL! It was quite the chaotic experience, but well worth it, just so I could say that I'd reprised my non-virtual trip over here with a virtual trip. Have to do something about that forehead though.

I did a bad job of expressing myself for the conversation's context, and jet lag and teaching had me late to the table in reading up on the conference. I'm more of a fence sitter than a centralist, if the distinction has any meaning. I dread the day when my school district gets its act enough together to decide on a "solution." Meanwhile, what has me satisfied with Manila, and even more excited about WordPress, is the potential for decentralized content production WITHIN a centralized community management system. Manila can make an aesthetically pleasing and efficiently functional domain management system while allowing all control of content to be at website level.
